Dr. Dannie Lester Mullins, 77, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 29th, 2025, at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, surrounded by loved ones. Born on August 20th, 1948, in Stanford, Kentucky, Dannie lived a life filled with happiness, serving others, and dedication to his long career in veterinary medicine.

Dannie was the husband of Sandi Mullins (Bronston, Kentucky), loving brother of Patricia Strahan (Richard, of Hoover, Alabama), devoted father to David Mullins (Cynthia, of Somerset, Kentucky) and Sarah Pavinich (Greg, of Oak Ridge, Tennessee), and cherished grandpapa to Caleb, Evan, and Noah Mullins, and Ella Grace and Luke Pavinich.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lester Mullins, and is survived by his wife Sandi, mother Agnes Mullins Bacon, sister Patricia, and his children and grandchildren.

Dannie graduated from Somerset High School in 1966. He attended the University of Kentucky, where he graduated in 1970 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Sciences. He then attended the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his Doctorate degree in 1974.

A veterinarian by trade, "Doc" was known for his more than 50 years of dedication to the pets and pet owners in our community. He continued to practice well into his senior years, only stopping recently when his health declined. Dr. Mullins founded Midway Veterinary Hospital, the first small animal only practice in our area. Many considered this a foolhardy gamble, but Dr. Mullins's observation of the increasing love for people and their pets kept him faithful in this pursuit. Decades later the term "Human-Animal Bond" was created, proving his vision was accurate and well before its time. More recently, he owned and managed Monticello Pet Clinic, focusing on wellness and out-patient care for the pet lovers of Wayne County.

Beyond his professional life, he found joy in spending time on Lake Cumberland, taking relaxing cruises with his wife and family whenever he could, and enjoying Kentucky Wildcat sports. His glowing attitude and infectious smile touched the lives of everyone he met.

Dannie will be remembered for his ability always to make a gathering a good time, his unwavering love for his family, and his constant dedication to his patients. Oh, and we can't forget an unmissable booming laugh often heard throughout the coves of Fishing Creek.

Whether you knew him as Dannie, Dad, Dr. Mullins, Doc, or Grandpapa, his light will continue to shine in the hearts of all who were blessed to have him in their lives.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at a later date. You may offer condolences and sign the Online Tribute Book at www.somersetundertaking.com. Somerset Undertaking Co & Crematory is entrusted with the arrangements for Dr. Dannie L. Mullins, DVM.
