Mollie Eugenia Spruce Mullins (Jeanie/Mollie) passed away peacefully at her home at The Woods Senior Care the morning of August 27, 2025, at the age of 96. Mollie was born in 1929 to Frank and Zelma Spruce in
Griffin, Georgia where she went on to graduate from Spalding High School. She spent most of her career working in the Spalding County Tax Commissioner's Office and served as Tax Commissioner from 1982 to 1992. She and her husband, Bob, were familiar faces at the Elks Club on Friday nights. Any time anyone wanted to go out dancing, get together for a barbeque, or head to the beach, she was "in," and she could jitterbug with the best of them! When she retired, she developed a love for gardening, volunteered at the church, was an avid walker and loved spending time with her grandchildren.
For most of her life, everyone knew her as Jeanie Mullins. Somehow the DMV figured out that Jeanie was a nickname and made her change her name on her license to Mollie. Every time she had to show her ID, people called her Mollie. She got tired of correcting everyone so one day she just decided she'd spend the rest of her life as Mollie. That was how she rolled!
Mollie was fun-loving, had a magnetic personality, loved people and made friends everywhere she went. She became a resident of The Woods Senior Care in November 2022 where she was fondly referred to as the Big Sheriff. Her dry wit and sense of humor made her a favorite among both staff and residents during her time there and she loved keeping everyone in line and laughing with her antics.
Mollie was preceded in death by her parents and brother, James F. Spruce and her husband of 55 years, Robert Earl (Bob) Mullins. She is survived by daughters Robyn (Mark) Taylor, Rhonda (Fred) Francis; grandchildren Melanie Taylor (Ben Gajus), Jessica Taylor (Cole Mitchell), Stephen Francis and Andrew Francis. She was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church of Griffin where all the members of her Sunday School Class held a special place in her heart. The staff of both The Woods and Eternal Hope Hospice were like family to her and every single one of them cared for her like she was a member of their own family. We would like to thank each of these amazing people for their compassionate and loving care throughout her time there and especially in her final days.
A graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery, Section C-4, 797 Memorial Drive,
Griffin, Georgia on Wednesday, September 3rd at 11:00 a.m. where all family and friends are invited to pay their last respects to this special lady. Those who wish to celebrate Mollie's extraordinary life are invited to do so by donating in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Griffin: FBC Endowment Foundation, P.O. Box 908,
Griffin, GA 20224.
