It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Danny James Barras, age 68. Danny was born to Floyd and Theresa Barras on the 28th of June, 1957. He passed away at his residence in Breaux Bridge on August 2, 2025 after battling cancer for two years.

He is survived by Janice Robin Barras, his wife of 48 years; their daughters: Jessica John (Emanuel) of Casper, Wyoming, Jena Barras (Windell) of Breaux Bridge, and Jackie Schexnayder (Samuel) of New Iberia; their grandchildren: Anthony Barras (Carolyn), Alijah John, Malachi John, Isaiah John, Josiah John, Abram John, Ezekiel John, Izabella Ruiz, Rayden Ruiz, Semaj Joseph, Gordon Schexnayder, Edward Schexnayder, Charlotte Schexnayder, and Norah Schexnayder; one great-granddaughter, Zaida Barras; brothers: Dale Barras, Terry Barras (Wendy); and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Barras; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Wilson Barras Sr. and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marcel Gardemal; his in-laws: Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Robin Sr., Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Robin Jr., Tina Robin, Aldus Robin, and Liz Barras; his niece, Kristen Barras; and his nephews: Clayton Latiolais and Kylon Calais.

Danny served for many years in the Catahoula Volunteer Fire Department as assistant chief and chief. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus of St. Martinville. He served as a Eucharistic Minister at St. Rita Catholic Church for many years. He enjoyed serving his community and was never afraid to put in the work to get a job done. He worked at Rex Milling Company in New Iberia, Dairy Den in St. Martinville, Les Barras Bait in Catahoula, and was the Auto Parts Manager at M&D Supply in Catahoula which later become known as Bumper to Bumper Auto Parts. He and his wife opened up Gator's Den in Catahoula where they served plate lunches and snowballs for 5 years. After retiring, he worked his dream job driving trucks for his brother's company, Barras Farms and for Borel Farm.

He loved to travel, whether it was going crabbing down at Holly Beach, driving through the hills and mountains of Branson, MO, or taking an Alaskan Cruise. He shared his father's fascination of Civil War Battlefields and traveled to many of the sites with his parents.

He used to love driving his children around in the wheelbarrow and on the dolly at the bait shop during his smoke breaks, then later upgraded them to joy rides on the forklift. The tradition passed down to riding his grandbabies around on his lawn mower, four-wheeler, tractor, and golf cart.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Elizabeth LeJeune and all of her staff at the Ochsner Cancer Center of Acadiana for their outstanding care and support provided. They would also like to thank Hospice of Acadiana for taking such good care of Danny over the last couple of months.
