Danny Michael Brooks passed away August 22, 2025, at his home in Berlin, Maryland, surrounded by his family after battling liver cancer. He was 66.
Danny was born on Marine Corps Base Quantico in Virginia to GySgt. Roger Collins "Mike" Brooks (d. 2020) and Iris Lee Brooks (nee McKinney) (d. 1977) on April 18, 1959. He grew up in North Carolina and Virginia, including on Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune, with his older sister, Jacquelyn (d. 1985), and two younger brothers. He attended J.E.B. Stuart High School (now known as Justice High School) in Falls Church, Virginia, where he ran track and played wide receiver for the school's football team.
After graduating, Danny attended George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he was a member of Kappa Sigma. He earned his bachelor's degree and became a certified public accountant. At his first job out of college, he met his future wife, Sheila Ortolivo. They married in 1986 and had three children in Centreville, Virginia, before moving to North Potomac, Maryland, where they spent most of their lives together.
With his children graduated and moved out on their own, Danny started his own accounting business and moved briefly to Ocean City before settling in Berlin. He was diagnosed with liver cancer in 2024 and spent the last year of his life valiantly battling the disease.
Danny was a devoted father and loved spending time with his children, whether it was traveling on vacations, going to concerts or just watching movies with them. He especially loved Christmastime. He was a lifelong Baltimore Orioles fan and took the kids to games whenever he could. He attended every one of his kids' soccer games and coached his youngest son's team. He will continue to root them on - both his kids and the O's - from Heaven.
He is survived by Sheila; his children, Michael Anthony, Geneva "Nevie" Marie and Patrick Basil; his brothers, Tim (Marcia) and Bill (Deb); his nephew, Joshua; his aunts, Beverly Brooks and Sharron Peterson; and many beloved cousins.
A funeral service will be held Sept. 23 at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Rockville, Maryland, with a reception for attendees immediately afterward. He will be interred at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland, the following day.
