Danny "Dan The Man" Holifield, 68, of Avon, IN was called home on Saturday, September 28, 2024.

Danny Lee Holifield was born on May 29, 1956, in Forest, Mississippi to the late Junior Green & Dora Holifield. He leaves behind a legacy of service, dedication, and a passion for life that touched all who knew him.

Danny's commitment to public service and thirst for knowledge was evident from an early age. He attended Martin Luther King Jr. High School in Chicago and joined the Army National Guard thereafter. His commitment to learning did not wane; as he demonstrated a lifelong pursuit of education. He lived up to his motto: “Never Stop Learning.” At the age of 55, he earned a PhD in Business from Bryant & Stratton Business College in Milwaukee.

A devoted member of the United States Army, Danny served proudly for over 25 years and attained the high-ranking office of Sergeant First Class. His military career was marked by integrity and commitment. After retiring on March 31, 1995, he spent 2 years working security at US Bank in Milwaukee and then 19 years as Postmaster General at the United States Postal Service in Wales, WI. Dan was also a member of the Freemason fraternal organization. These positions reflected not only his leadership abilities, but also his dedication to serving his community.

Known for his no-nonsense approach to life, Danny was organized, private, and set in his ways. As a man of few words…his love language was gift giving. He had a remarkable zest for life, charming nature, and jovial spirit. He was always the “life of the party”, making him a favorite among friends and family alike. Dan The Man’s smooth, suave, and charismatic personality affectionately coined him a "Ladies Man”.

Danny's interests were diverse and deeply rooted in his passion for music, cars, and technology. Our fondest memories include his remarkable collection of trains. He would build active train sets spanning the house at holidays and massive 3D printed scenes. During his spare time, he was a “Grill Master’, trained K9 dogs, and volunteered at local schools fixing computers for kids. He also loved his dogs Pepper, and the late Wolfgang and Cudjoe immensely.

His dedication to the sport of bowling was a hallmark of his social life. He was an avid bowler, member of numerous leagues, and the recipient of multiple Hall of Fame trophies. Some of his best friendships blossomed within the confines of a bowling alley.

Danny was a television fanatic. If you turned the channel from his non-stop marathon of old westerns, you would be in big trouble! He was a huge fan of the Milwaukee Bucks and Indiana Pacers. Every Thanksgiving he looked forward to watching the Green Bay Packers while being surrounded by his family and good food.

Danny is survived by his loving daughters: Kimberly Marie Holifield (MN) and Tatiana Holifield-Arthur (CA), grandson Khalil Jones (MN), and siblings; Densley “DeDee” Stewart (IN), Rebecca Brewer (IL), and Robert Green (MS). He continued to receive unconditional love and support until he transitioned from his ex-wife, Elaine (Booker) Holifield. He is also survived by a host of beloved nephews, his niece, extended family, neighbors, and friends.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on Saturday, October 12, 2024, at O'Riley-Branson Funeral Service & Crematory from 10:00AM-11:00AM with a Memorial Service immediately following at 11:00AM in the funeral home.
