Cecil Wayne Calvert, 88, of
Indianapolis, Indiana, known to all as Wayne, passed away peacefully on January 28, 2026.
Born on June 14, 1937, in
Mitchellville, Tennessee, Wayne was the beloved son of the late Chester M. and Addie C. (Denning) Calvert. He grew up in Tennessee and attended Franklin Simpson High School in Franklin, Kentucky.
On August 15, 1965, Wayne married the love of his life, Patsy M. Vance. Together, they shared 60 years of devoted marriage, building a life rooted in love, laughter, and quiet strength.
Wayne was a man of simple pleasures who found joy in the everyday. He was passionate about sports and camaraderie, spending many years playing softball and bowling in the Kroger league. He was also an avid golfer and found peace in fishing.
A dedicated worker, Wayne retired from Kroger in June of 1999 after 39 years of service, where he helped set up new stores and served as Produce Manager. Even in retirement, he remained engaged in the local sports community, working as a ticket taker and usher for a Pacers sports affiliation for 18 years-a role he cherished for the friendships and spirit it brought.
A lifelong football enthusiast, Wayne was a proud season ticket holder for the Indianapolis Colts and rarely missed a game. He also followed Indiana University football with enthusiasm and was recently thrilled to witness one of their exciting victories.
Wayne leaves behind to treasure his memory his beloved wife, Patsy M. Calvert; three children, Chris Calvert, Lisa (Clint) Maryonovich, and Jeff Calvert; grandchildren Vin, Nicholas, Evan, Courtney, Macie, and numerous other grandchildren; as well as multiple great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Calvert, and his siblings, Loretta (Bill) Blevins, Doris Graves, and Dorothy Calvert.
A celebration of Wayne's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Monday, February 2, 2026, at G. H. Herrmann Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 5141 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis.
