Franklin Calvert Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home on Jan. 29, 2026.
Franklin "Dennis" Calvert, 62, a native and lifelong resident of Semmes, AL, passed away on January 27th, 2026, after a long battle of complications following a hip replacement surgery. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many.

Dennis is preceded in death by his wife of 35 years, Deborah Emerson Calvert, and his father, Franklin Devir Calvert. He is survived by his three children: Jandi (Jeremy) Hall, Christopher (Paige) Emerson, and Casey Calvert, as well as his five grandchildren: Katherine, Lawson, Caroline, Jackson, and Lexie. He is also survived by his mother, Elizabeth Black DeVine, and three siblings: Deborah (Donnie) Vickers, David Calvert, and Daniel Calvert, along with several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.

He was a devoted business owner who spent more than 35 years painting residential and commercial properties, taking great pride in his craft and the quality of his work. Known for his strong work ethic and attention to detail, he built lasting relationships through his trade and earned the trust of countless clients over the years.

He lived a life rooted in simplicity and joy. He loved the outdoors, whether hunting, fishing, or riding his motorcycle, and found happiness in the freedom of open roads and quiet days outside. A true jack of all trades, he had a natural ability to fix just about anything with a motor and could often be found "piddling" in his shop, doing what he loved most.

He never met a stranger and was rarely seen without a big smile. His home was a place of constant gathering, where friends and family were always welcome to stop by, sit awhile, and share stories. He cherished time spent with the people he loved and valued the simple pleasures of life. Above all, he will be remembered as a man who loved deeply, lived simply, and brought warmth and laughter wherever he went.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 2, 2026, at Valhalla Memorial Funeral Home from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a chapel service at 1:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Valhalla Memorial Gardens.
