Shirley Beyl Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by O'Riley - Branson Funeral Service & Crematory from Jan. 29 to Jan. 30, 2026.
Shirley M. Mattingly Beyl, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away on January 24, 2026, in Danville, Indiana, leaving behind a legacy of kindness and cherished memories. Born on September 24, 1933, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Shirley's life was marked by her unwavering spirit and the love she cultivated within her family, friends, and community.

A proud graduate of Fillmore High School, Shirley dedicated herself to her career, working diligently for 32 years at Indianapolis Office Supplies, then 16 years at Business Furniture until her retirement in 2008. Every Christmas at work, she would make sure every co-worker received a Christmas gift. Her commitment to her work was matched only by her devotion to her family, which was at the center of her life. After retirement, she moved in with her daughter and her family.

Shirley was a passionate individual, known for her hobbies that brought joy to her everyday life. She found great pleasure in bowling, earning several trophies for her talent, and she loved cozy nights spent watching movies or engaging in latch hook crafts, and doing word search puzzles. She would commandeer the TV to watch her soaps every day and night. Her enthusiasm extended to her sports loyalties, where she cheered fervently for the Cincinnati Reds, IU Football, and the Indianapolis Colts, embodying the spirit of a true fan.

She is survived by her loving daughter, Shelley (David) Aaker, and her son, Thomas Beyl. Her warmth and affection will be remembered fondly by her treasured grandson Dalton Aaker, as well as several nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who held a special place in her heart.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas and Mary Mattingly, who nurtured her into the remarkable person she became. She now joins her sisters Catherine, Nadine, and Jennifer, her brothers William, Thomas, and Paul, as well as her granddaughter Daphne Denson, and her cherished companion, Mike Tex, forming a bond that extends beyond this life.

Visitation will take place on February 5, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at O'Riley – Branson Funeral Service & Crematory, 6107 South East Street, Indianapolis, Indiana 46227, and a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mark Catholic Church, 535 Edgewood Ave., Indianapolis, Indiana 46227, on February 6, 2026, at 11:00 AM. Entombment will be at Calvary Cemetery.
