Danny Lay Obituary

Danny Gene "Dan" Lay, born on July 25, 1941, in Dent County, Missouri, passed away at the age of 83 on March 4, 2025, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. He was a cherished husband, father, and grandfather whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Dan devoted a considerable part of his career to the aviation industry, working for TWA for 17 years and US Airways for 22 years, ultimately serving as the director of sales before the company transitioned to American Airlines. His professional journey was marked by dedication and commitment, attributes that he carried into every aspect of his life.
A proud patriot, Dan served as a reservist in the United States Army from October 1963 to September 1969, answering the call of duty with honor during a six-month active service period. His sense of duty and service to his country was commendable and remembered fondly by those who served alongside him.
At the heart of Dan's life was his deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Ruth Lay; his son, Steven Lay, and daughter-in-law Angie; his four grandchildren; and his sister, Rita Farrar. Preceding him in death were his parents, Raymond Lay and Alta (Gamblin) Lay; his brothers, Bobby and Billy "Bill" Lay; and his sister, Dora Nelson. Dan leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories that will forever reside in their hearts.
Dan's gracious and kind spirit, along with his dedication to both his family and his work, defined his life. He will be remembered for his warmth, his steadfast support, and the joyful moments he shared with those fortunate enough to have been part of his journey.
