Danny Schrum Obituary
February 24, 1957 - January 1, 2022
Danny Lewis Schrum, 64, of Lincolnton, departed this life Saturday, Jan. 1, 2022, at Atrium Cabarrus Hospital in Concord.
Born Feb. 24, 1957, he was the son of the late Donald Lewis Schrum and Mae Jean Reinhardt Schrum. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son, Caleb Daniel Schrum.
He is survived by his wife, Penelope Bost Schrum; a sister, Amy Schrum Farris; aunts, Dorothy Reinhardt Wise and Jane Reinhardt Schrum; uncle, Kenneth Flint Schrum; and several very dear cousins and extended family. He was thrilled to be "Pappy" to two grandchildren.
After several jobs in manufacturing and industry, Danny embarked on a career with the North Carolina Department of Corrections, serving 21 years at the Lincoln Correctional Center, where he was still employed at the time of his death. Among other duties and special responsibilities, he served as a field training officer. He was also honored to be selected by his peers as Employee of the Year at the facility, and his homemade chili was legendary among his co-workers.
Danny's singing voice was part of church choirs and the "Home for Christmas" concerts in Hudson. He enjoyed drag races, animal parks and zoos. His kindness and helpfulness to others resulted in cars repaired, carpets cleaned, batteries replaced and clocks changed for his older friends — whatever little tasks would make someone's life brighter. His servant's heart was also evident in his financial support for missionaries. His love for the Lord Jesus and his sincere desire that all might know the blessings of Salvation through Christ shaped his life on earth.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Feb. 21, at Augustana Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1523 16th St. NE in Hickory. The family will receive friends beginning at 2:15 p.m. in the fellowship hall; the service will follow at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary.
