Danny Thompson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cox Funeral Home - Manchester on Sep. 27, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Danny Thompson (DT), age 71, of Shiloh, Georgia, went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2025. He was born on March 28, 1954, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to the late Grady Thompson and Alma Thompson Carlisle.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, David.
Danny was a man of deep faith and a dedicated member of First Assembly of God Church, where he served as a board member and sang joyfully on the praise team. His faith guided his life, and the love he had for his family and friends was felt by all who knew him.
He worked at Champion Mobile Homes in Woodbury until 1977 before going to work Georgia Pacific. He worked there until his retirement in 2014. After retirement, he worked at White Sulfur Springs Water Plant. Outside of work, he enjoyed playing softball for many years, officiating basketball games with Bill Morgan, cheering on his beloved LSU Tigers in his purple and gold, and spending time with the people he loved. Danny always worked and took care of his family. Some of his greatest joys were family trips to the beach, the mountains, visiting family in Texas, and going to Disney, where countless memories were made. He was always putting smiles on the faces of everyone around him.
He leaves behind his loving wife, Beckie Thompson; daughter, Amy Thompson; sister-in-law, Ellen Westbrook; brother-in-law, Billy Wayne Carpenter (Linda); nephew, Scotty Railey; nieces, Tracy Railey Hattaway (Justin), Charli Carroll (Phillip); nephew, Dana Westbrook(Mia); niece Tammy Carpenter; and nephew, Kevin Carpenter (Donna), a lifelong friend and brother, Jimmy Worley, who stood by him through the years, and a wonderful neighbor, Mr. Jack, whose kindness and friendship he cherished. He also leaves behind extended family and many friends who will cherish his memory.
He was also lovingly known as "Pawpaw" to Ashley (Ronnie), Amber, Alex (Nick), Morghin, Abby, KK, Eli, Gabe, Ian, Brantlee, Bryson, and Kooper, who he considered and loved as his own grandchildren, along with his 4 legged grandson, Jackson.
Though his passing leaves a hole in our hearts, we rejoice in knowing he is walking hand in hand with Jesus on the streets of gold. His body is restored, his mind is clear, and he is free from all fear and pain. This is not goodbye, but simply see you later until we meet again in Heaven.

Funeral services for Danny will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, September 29, 2025 at First Assembly of God in Manchester, GA. Interment will follow in the Meriwether Memory Gardens in Manchester, GA. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm at the funeral home on Sunday, September 28, 2025,
