Harvey Allen Argroves, Sr., of Manchester, GA passed away September 19 after a long illness. The youngest of nine children, Harvey was born October 28, 1935 to John George and Annie Lizzie Beckom Argroves. After graduating from Manchester High School in 1953, he began a career in construction with Wright Contracting Co. and lived and worked along the East Coast before returning to Manchester in 1980. He worked with Holliday Construction Co. in Greenville, and then spent years setting up burial sites for the funeral homes in Manchester. At the age of 70, he began working as a security guard at Cagles in Pine Mountain Valley.

A natural entertainer with a big personality, Harvey loved talking to family and friends. He was a loving uncle to his many nieces and nephews and proud father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Louie Kent (Odessa), Kent, Buddy (Lovie), Carl (Mabel) and Alton (Lucille); and sisters Mary (Homer) Moran, Josephine (Ed) Moore, Grace (Leon) Sammons, and Joyce (Ben) Busbin. He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Betty; his children, Harvey Allen, Jr. (Lynne), Sandra (Michael Wilson), and Cara (Kelwen Taylor); and his grandchildren, Chad Banks, Taylor and Trey Watson, and Bix Taylor.

The family asks that you celebrate Harvey's life by sharing your favorite stories of him. A private burial will be held at a later date, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Columbus Hospice of Georgia and Alabama.
