Dao Le Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by McNearney - Schmidt Funeral and Cremation on Dec. 11, 2025.
Dao Dang Le passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025.
He was born January 1, 1944, in Binh Dinh, Vietnam, to Van Le and Buu Thi Huynh. On December 7, 1971, he married Lieu Thuy Chau, a partnership lasting more than 5 decades.
From 1971 to 1975, Dao served as a translator and maintenance technician for the U.S. Embassy in Vietnam, bridging cultures during a time of great uncertainty. When the fall of Vietnam came in 1975, Dao made the brave decision to bring his family to the United States, seeking safety and opportunity. They settled in Bloomington, Minnesota, where he built a new life from the ground up. Dao's longest and most fulfilling professional chapter was at the University of Minnesota, where he worked for over 20 years before retiring in 2007. His dedication and quiet strength left an impression on all who knew him.
Dao is survived by his wife, Lieu; daughter, Chauloan (Nam); sons, Trung (Amy), and Stephen; grandkids, Alex, Derek, and Louis; brother Hoi (Nga) and nieces and nephew, Nancy, Sarah, and Andy; nephew Thanh (Mai), great-nephews, Long, Henry, and Ryan, as well as various other relatives, nieces and nephews.
Dao will be laid to rest at Lakewood Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
McNearney-Schmidt Funeral and Cremation has been honored to care for Dao and his family.
