Darcy List Gray

Darcy Arline List Gray, age 77, of Great Mills, MD, died on January 5, 2026, at the Charlotte Hall Veterans Home.

Born on July 26, 1948, in Des Moines, Iowa, she was the daughter of the late Roy E. List Jr. and the late Jeanette Powers List.

She was married for 56 years to Walter Vernon Gray III, whom she married on June 14, 1969, at Nativity Episcopal Church, Camp Springs, MD; and is survived by her husband; sons, Walter V. Gray IV and Rebecca, and David R. Gray; five grandchildren, and her sister Delcy Newell of Northford, CT.

She graduated from Surrattsville Senior High, Clinton, MD, in 1966; and attended nursing school in Washington DC.

During her husband's military and civilian careers, she was a homemaker and resided in Lakehurst, NJ; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Long Beach, CA; Barber's Point, HI; California, MD; Okeechobee, FL; New Hartford, NY, and Great Mills, MD.

She was a stalwart "Navy wife," who faithfully shouldered the sacrifices of military life.

From 1985 to 2005 she was a substitute teacher in the St. Mary's County Public Schools, most frequently at Leonardtown High School, and was highly respected and liked.

She excelled in arts & crafts, and culinary.

Funeral proceedings will be private with future interment at Arlington National Cemetery.
