Darla Howe Sutton, age 87, of Knoxville, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Wellington Manor Memory Care.
She was surrounded by the love of her children and grandchildren. Darla was born on April 21, 1938, as the youngest child of John and Ethel Howe. Ms. Sutton retired from the Oak Ridge school system in 1995, where she had been a first-grade teacher at Glenwood Elementary School for over 20 years. She was a native of Rogersville, Tennessee, and

She moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, in 1968 with her husband to raise their three children and was a member and former deaconess of First Baptist Church. She supported her children's activities, including First Baptist Youth, BOYS Club, Cub Scouts, and the Oak Ridge Academy of Dance. Darla constantly reminded her friends, coworkers, neighbors, and even strangers about her children's professional accomplishments.
After retiring from teaching, she and her husband moved to Knoxville in 1997 to be closer to their grandchildren.
Survived by sons, John Sutton and wife Cynthia of Knoxville, Dr. James Sutton, MD, and wife Kendra of Royse City, Texas, and daughter Jennifer Sutton Yow and husband Avery of Powell, Tennessee. The family would like to express special thanks to caregivers Ms. Diane Williams and Anita Hemphill, and to the staff of Dr. John Carroll, MD, at Summit Medical at Hardin Valley and Wellington Manor, for the wonderful care they provided. A very special thank you to Shalom for their excellent hospice care.
A receiving of friends will be held on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 3:00pm to 5:00pm at Weatherford Mortuary with a memorial service to follow. The family will have a private burial at Oak Ridge Memorial park.
