Darlene Gail Brown was born on January 10, 1944, to the late Awalt and Irene Graeter Jaster in Houston, Texas. She grew up and attended school in Levita, graduating from Jonesboro High School in 1962. She married Jerry Lee Brown on August 9, 1963 and the two made their home in Gatesville, living within a half mile of their current home all of their married lives. She and Jerry had two children, Jerry Lewis and Linda. After Linda’s passing in 1998, Darlene dedicated her entire life to raising Linda’s children and her great-granddaughters. She loved watching her grandchildren grow and always enjoyed attending all their softball games. She also enjoyed spending time at the river with her family, camping, fishing, and cooking for others. Grandma, as she was known to her family, loved Christmas, her family, and the Lord. She was a member of Harmony Baptist Church. She was a simple woman, never complained and always had a smile on her face.
Darlene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry Brown; daughter, Linda Brown Aguilar; and son, Jerry Lewis Brown.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Jessica Smart and husband, Ross, Kayla Chumley and husband, Zane; great-grandchildren, Joli Archie, Jacy Archie, Ellie Chumley, and Adlee Chumley; sisters, Nell Merritt and husband, Howard, Patricia Clayton and husband, Jack, and Phyllis Thorton; brothers, Nelton Long Jr. and wife, Cindy; and John Jaster; and many nieces, nephews, and in-laws.
Darlene’s family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Aunt Janie Brown, who has been a special part of her life for over 50 years. She has provided compassion, friendship, love, and has been such an inspiration to everyone in the family.
