Darlene A. Hicks

Darlene passed away peacefully on June 4, 2025. She was born on January 25, 1950, in Chestertown, Maryland to Billie Bell Sr. and Anna (née Pennington) Bell.

Darlene lived a life filled with love for spending time with family and friends. She was a devoted member of her church and cherished attending services to worship God and connect with her church community. She also enjoyed meeting new people, playing cards, and visiting casinos.

She is survived by her children Brian Schoonover; Charles “Chuck” Hicks Jr and wife Colleen; James Hicks and wife Nicki; and John Young and wife Julie. She is also survived by seven grandchildren; her brother Billie Bell and wife Alice; and her sister-in-law Sandy, wife of her late brother Gary.

Darlene was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles “Bo” Hicks Sr; her brothers Gary Bell, George Bell and wife Donna, and Ray Bell and wife Miriam; and her sister Margie Bell.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Darlene’s church:

Friends may call at the family-owned Bruzdzinski Funeral Home P.A., 1407 Old Eastern Avenue, Essex, Maryland 21221, on Saturday, June 14, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, where a funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM. Entombment Holly Hill Memorial Gardens.
