Darlene Elizabeth Payne went to be with the Lord on Monday, November 4th, 2024. Her last few hours she spent worshiping Jesus with her five children.
Darlene was born in Erie on May 12th, 1939, daughter to the late Kenneth A. Jackson and Doris (Loeffel) Jackson. Darlene was born a twin, as so many knew Darlene and Marlene.
Darlene graduated from McDowell High School in 1957. She then married the late, John G. Hrinda, M.D. and they had five beautiful children. They enjoyed taking family vacations together.
Darlene loved God and her family deeply. She loved being active in her children's lives. She was a very caring mom and always had a smile on her face. As her children stated, "Mom gave us everything we needed in life - what a gift!" When her grandchildren arrived, she became "Amma." Whom they adored and loved to call her Amma the Llama. Darlene brought much joy and laughter to her grandchildren taking them to the zoo, garage sales, mini golf, and several other fun activities.
Darlene was a gift not only to her family but also to many others. She treasured everyone she encountered and enjoyed helping others in need. She devoted her time volunteering at the Girard Library, Hotline, the Food Pantry, and the Olive Branch Book store, where she was a blessing to all who walked in. She loved talking to people everywhere she went.
Darlene enjoyed helping her late devoted husband, Frank H. Payne ("Frankie") with all his craft shows and woodworking. They also enjoyed golfing together in a couple's league. They were also in charge of the greeting ministry at Erie First Assembly of God for several years together. Darlene loved attending bible studies throughout her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Karen Repman.
She will be greatly missed by her family which include her sons John Hrinda (Alison), Tim Hrinda (Rahim) her daughters Sharon MacKendrick (Chris), Kim Kamppi (Matt), and Diane Jenkins (Paul). Her grandchildren John, Paul and Christian Hrinda, Heather Harpst (Josh), Tara Farley (Will) Matt Kamppi (Lynsie), Julee Wurst (Dan), Josiah Kamppi (Annamarie), Jessica Yun (Eric) and Jenn Kamppi, along with sixteen great-grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews. She will also be greatly missed by her twin sister, Marlene Steinmiller (Tom) and her brother Ronald Jackson (Jane).
Friends and family may call on visitation Friday, November 15th from 9 to 10am at Edder Funeral Home, 309 Main St E, Girard, PA with a Memorial Service to follow at 10am.
In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Erie City Missions, 1017 French Street, Erie, PA 16501.

God bless you and your family in this time of sorrow. I worked with Darlene at Morlite/Vista she was a good friend and co worker. Darlene often talked about her family and how much she loved you all and how proud she was of you all.
I will treasure my memories of Dar.
