Darlene Faye Peden, 69, of De Kalb, passed away on July 9, 2025, at Baptist Anderson Hospital in Meridian.
She was born on June 21, 1956, in Mobile, AL. She was adopted when she was two years old by her mother and father, Herbert Ray and Lucille Peden of De Kalb, MS. She was a graduate of Kemper Academy in 1974. She was successful in multiple jobs throughout her life, but her favorite was when she worked for Horizon Lines on a US Navy-owned boat that was a member of the Oceanographic Survey Fleet. She worked for Horizon from 2003-2011, and during that time she sailed around the world three times and had the opportunity to see some of the most exotic locations in the world. She loved life and loved traveling, but the things she loved most of all was her family and friends. There is nothing she wouldn't do for the people she loved.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Lauren Kilpatrick of De Kalb; Roy and Alice Peden of Lynville (who she called her adopted parents after her Mom and Dad died); Rosemary Marshall of Mobile, Crystal Johnson of De Kalb, and Nancy Connor of De Kalb (who she considered her sisters); Harold and Jimmy Peden of De Kalb (her uncles); Chad Spurlin of Collinsville (who she considered her adopted son); along with numerous cousins, extended family, and friends she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by her parents Herbert Ray and Lucille Peden.
A Celebration of Life for Darlene will be held on Saturday, July 19th, beginning at 2:00 pm at Webb & Stephens Funeral Homes-North, with Bro. Chris Gully officiating the services.
