Darlene Sweeney Solomson
1947-2026
"Well Done Faithful Servant"
With heavy hearts, we share the news of the passing of Darlene Agnes Sweeney Solomson. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, she left us on March 24, 2026 after leading a life full of love, strength and kindness. Darlene was the devoted wife of Raymond F. Solomson for 56 years and together they loved and raised their children Tracey Eileen Solomson Neumuth, and Raymond (RJ) Francis Solomson Jr. in Manchester and South Windsor CT. She adored her bonus son Mark Neumuth who cared for and loved her as we did. Her precious gifts from God, her grandchildren, Sydney Eileen, Grace Catherine and Jude Harrison Neumuth, were the joys of her life and she loved them "to the moon and back. "
Born in Hartford Connecticut, on July 9th, 1947, Darlene was the beloved daughter of Thomas J. and Agnes (Deeley) Sweeney. She adored her siblings, their spouses and children and showered them with love and loyalty. She was predeceased by her precious brothers Barry and Tommy. She is survived by Sister "Sister" Elaine Sweeney, PhD, her twin, Doreen and Jim Anderson, Deirdre and Bryan Palmer, Brian and Valerie Sweeney, Terrance (Terry) Sweeney, Andrea Sweeney and Ann Sweeney, Stephen Solomson, Peter Solomson and Chris Feeney, Michael and Cindy Solomson and Richard and Jeanne Solomson and Michael and Mary Lou Vasquenza and family. She also leaves her nieces and nephews Charity, Tammy, Danny and Marie, Kate and Adam, Kyle and Victoria and Amy, Kelly and Peter, James and Yvette, Brendan, Erin, Ian and Kara, Morgan, Darby, Cody and Carlei, Jared, Collin, Conor, and Kellan. She leaves countless Sweeney cousins whom she loved dearly…you know who you are.
Darlene dedicated her life to caring for others, guided deeply by her faith and an unwavering devotion to her most precious gifts, her family. A steadfast and devoted Irish Catholic woman, she lived with grace, resilience, and compassion in all that she did. Darlene answered any call and was always there to listen, and would jump into action on a moment's notice when needed. She leaves behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, one defined by faith, generosity, and the enduring power of a mother's love.
She graduated from St. James School, East Catholic High School and Mary Ward Secretarial School. After a career at Pratt & Whitney, she dedicated the next chapter of her life to raising her children, alongside her large extended family. As her children grew, she returned to work for Allied Construction, Inc. where she proudly worked with her brother Brian. She loved to travel with Raymond, and family and was always up for adventure from Hawaii to Florida to Ireland and countless place in between. She cheered with great spirit for the UCONN Huskies, and ANY team Tracey, RJ and grandchildren were on (pick a sport-she was there!) always wearing the best gear to show her pride. She was the original Pasta party thrower-even when the power went out (#18). Darlene loved to read, dance, golf with her Beaded Ladies and swim on the beaches of Cape Cod with her grandchildren. Her potato salad, chocolate chip cookies and apple pie, made with love, were requested at every family gathering.
While our hearts are mourning the loss of Darlene's physical presence, we are comforted knowing that her bright light will shine eternally through all those she loved and touched.
