Darlene Vanzant Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Moore-Cortner Funeral Home - Winchester on Feb. 11, 2026.
Darlene Henshaw Vanzant, age 81 of Belvidere, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at her residence surrounded by her loving family. A native of Franklin County, she was born in Huntland on January 28, 1945, to the late Robert Austell and Ruby Lou (Putman) Henshaw. Before her retirement, she was employed by the Franklin County School System for twenty-three years as a bus driver. After retirement, she became a dedicated homemaker and enjoyed going to yard sales and thrift stores, as well as watching old black and white movies. Community minded, Darlene studied history and genealogy and was a lifetime member of DAR and the Franklin County Historical Society. She cherished the time spent with her friends and beloved family, especially her grandchildren who fiercely adored her. Her contagious personality combined with her friendly and giving nature allowed her to never meet a stranger throughout her lifetime. She was a devoted member of Vernon Ridge Missionary Church. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Hugh Lynn Vanzant; and sister, Lois Hodges. She is survived by her loving children, Hubert Vanzant and Scarlett (Shane) White; grandchildren, Chloe (Matthew) Costilla and Cullyn Davenport; great-grandchildren, Sam Costilla and Ash Costilla; sister, Peggy Clark; special caretaker and niece, Vicki Douglas; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Visitation will be from 5-8pm on Sunday, February 15, 2026, at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, February 16, 2026, in the Chapel of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home with Bro. John Gifford officiating. Interment will follow at Vanzant-Gray Cemetery.
