Darlis Faye Allen of Allen, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2025, at the age of 84. She was born on May 23, 1941, in Arkansas to James Ervin Halcumb and Grace Faye (Pendleton) Halcumb.

Darlis grew up and spent most of her life in Arkansas, graduating from North Little Rock High School, where she was a classmate of Jerry Jones. On September 29, 1985, she married the love of her life, Gwendol Leroy Allen, in Bryant, Arkansas. Together they shared many wonderful years and were blessed with five children: Keith, Montie, Sherrill, Kelvin, and Tamra.

Hardworking and dedicated, Darlis worked as a switchboard operator well into her eighties, retiring at the remarkable age of 82. She never met a stranger-she loved talking with people, learning their stories, and always finding the good in everyone she met. A woman of deep faith, Darlis was proud of her Pentecostal roots and could quote Scripture with conviction and joy.

She also found peace and fulfillment in simple pleasures-crocheting blankets and afghans for family and friends, tending to her yard, and caring for her plants. Her thoughtfulness, warmth, and joyful spirit touched everyone around her.

Darlis is survived by her sons, Keith Nelson (Cathy) of Perry, Arkansas, Dwain Nelson of McKinney, Texas, and Kelvin Nelson (Dawn) of Lonoke, Arkansas; daughter, Tamra Dobbs (Roy) of Allen, Texas; grandchildren, Jacqueline, Tabitha, Brittany, Jon, Destiny, Amber, Megan, Candice, Elizabeth, Jessica, Christy, Christopher, and Jacob; fifteen great-grandchildren; sister, Sue Shirley (Anthony) of Sherwood, Arkansas; brother, Lonnie Halcumb (Sandy) of Grove, Oklahoma; and many other loving family members and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gwendol Allen; sisters, Helen Webb and Lena Roberson; brother, Lloyd Halcumb; and beloved son, Montie Nelson.

A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 17, 2025, at Turrentine-Jackson-Morrow Funeral Home, 2525 Central Expressway North, Allen, Texas 75013. The service will also be live streamed at TJMfuneral.com on Darlis's obituary page by clicking on the following link: https://celebrationoflife.tv/blog/darlis-faye-allen.
