(Darold) Rex Struve, 97, of Monticello, died on July 1 at the Monticello Nursing Home following complications due to a stroke.
Rex was born in Elberon, Iowa on May 14, 1928, to Louis and Laura (Schliemann) Struve. He was one of one of five siblings that included four brothers (Howard, Orland, Berlyn, and Darwin) and one sister (Lorraine Steinford) all of whom preceded him in death.
Following graduation from high school in Van Horne, Rex served in the Army as a medic in the Korean War. Following military service, in 1955 he married Sara Hayden of Monticello, who he remained married to until his death.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his three sons: Mike (Jeanne) of Fort Myers, FL; Doug (Eve) of Garland, TX; Jim (Adona) of Henderson, NV; and five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Rex spent the majority of his life farming northwest of Monticello. Besides farming, his passions included fishing, attending dances, and following University of Iowa sports and Chicago Cubs baseball.
Rex coached Little League and Babe Ruth Baseball and was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church.
A funeral service will be held 11:00 Thursday morning, July 10, 2025, at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Monticello, with interment at Oakwood Cemetery. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Pastor Dave Raemisch will officiate at the services.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Monticello Food Bank.
