Darrell Leroy Corey, 71, of Kingsford Heights, passed away at 11:45 a.m., Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Northwest Health La Porte.

He was born March 13, 1954, in La Porte, to Kenneth and Blanche (Dayton) Corey

On September 2, 1978, at Maple City Church in La Porte, he married Sharon (Thomas) Corey, who survives.

Darrell is a veteran of the US Army, and spent the last 40 years as an active member of the American Legion Post 434. He was a very active member of the community and did a lot of volunteer work. Darrell was president of the park board, and also president of the Boise Cascade union. He known to participate in chili cook-offs, and help with parks.

He also devoted his time being a little league coach, a thing he was very proud of, and consequently, the Kingsford Heights Little League Complex named their concession stand after him. Most of all he cherished spending time with his family, and his grandson Matthew.

Darrell is survived by his wife, Sharon; children, Nate (Stephanie) and Josh (Melissa Mischke) Corey; sisters, Kathy (Steven) King, Beverly Hand; grandson, Mathew; and his beloved dog, buddy.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Aretha Maddox; brother, Danny Corey; brother-in-law, Stephen Hand, and nephew, Stephen Hand.

Cremation will take place. Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd., La Porte, (219) 362-3100, is taking care of the arrangements. There will be a memorial gathering at 12 p.m., Saturday, July 19, 2025 at the American Legion Post 434 in Kingsford Heights

So sorry to hear of Darrell passing. What a wonderful person he was. One of the kindest and giving people I have ever known. He will certainly be missed but always remembered.
