Darrell Lee Garrett, Sr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 29, 2024, at the age of 75.
Born in Louisville, Kentucky on November 28, 1948, to Alberta Banks and the late Ernest Garrett, Darrell lived a life full of accomplishment and genuine connection.
Darrell's career thrived in the world of broadcasting. He held the position of Vice President of Programming at Channel 15, where his leadership and vision undoubtedly shaped local television. Later, his entrepreneurial spirit led him to establish Pinnacle Building Maintenance, Inc., a successful commercial cleaning business.
Beyond his professional achievements, Darrell was a man cherished for his warmth and generosity. He possessed a rare ability to connect with everyone he met, making them feel like instant friends. Darrell was always there to lend a listening ear or offer sage advice to family and friends in need.
A man of boundless energy, Darrell embraced an active lifestyle. He reveled in the joy of travel, and tackled home improvement projects with gusto. Family time was of utmost importance to him, and he cherished moments spent visiting loved ones. Fishing was another of Darrell's passions, offering him a chance to relax and connect with nature.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife, Doris C. Garrett; daughter, S. Carter Garrett Matienzo; son, Darrell L. Garrett, Jr.; grandchildren, Lynnex Garrett, Octavian Matienzo, and Kira Matienzo; sister, Brownyn Hudson; mother, Alberta Banks; and stepfather, James Banks.
Visitation will be 12:00 pm to 4:00 pm Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Ratterman Brothers Funeral Home, East Louisville (12900 Shelbyville Road).
