Darrell Jay Larkin

Master Sargent (Ret.) Darrell J. Larkin 92, a resident of Veguita, New Mexico, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 22, 2023. Darrell was born in Catawba Wisconsin where he helped work on the family farm. He then joined the US Air Force and had a career first as a Flight Engineer and then finished his career as a Flight Instructor. After retirement, he worked at the Anaconda uranium mill for several years as a Mill Foreman. Before his Air Force retirement, he trained himself to work as an upholsterer through a book correspondence course and became proficient in upholstery and worked out of his home with Larkin's Upholstery doing furniture, cars, and several business and churches who needed his services. Later in life, he worked as a guard part-time.
Darrell most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He was very active in his church life. He served as a Deacon and Church Elder at the First Assembly of God and the Church of God both in Grants, NM. He was a master of all trades and was always helping family and friends to repair their vehicles and helped others with anything they needed. He was beloved and respected by anyone he knew.
He was preceded in death by: Claude and Cora Larkin, parents; Theresa Rodriguez, Daughter; Bill Larkin, Son; brothers John Larkin, Russell Larkin, Harold Larkin, and sister Faye Mabie; brother-in-laws Paul (Sonny) Sanchez, Jess Cordova, and Nolan Webb.
He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Doris Larkin; daughter Gail Schiffli and husband Gary Schiffli; sister-in-laws Theresa Cordova, Pauline Webb, Louise Sanchez, and Grace Garcia and husband Jess Garcia; nieces Joyce Hettinger and husband Dave, and Carolyn Mills and husband Bill. He had multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews all of whom he cherished all throughout his life.
Services for Darrell will be held on Friday, April 28, 2023, at Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel beginning with a visitation at 10:00 am. A Memorial Service will then take place immediately following at 10:30 am.
