Veronica Ellen Larkin (Walters) Age 89 of Columbia Heights, MN. A cherished wife, mother, grandmother and dedicated friend passed away peacefully on July 31, 2025. Veronica was born to Julius and Veronica (Logue) Walters on December 9, 1935, in Tracy, MN. She leaves behind her husband, Doyle, the couple's five children: Kevin (Robert) of Santa Fe, NM; Mark (Patti) of Fort Collins, CO; John (Robin) of Fridley, MN; Chris (Linda) of Lino Lakes, MN; and Anne Walter (Tom) of Princeton, MN; 12 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren, brother, Julius (Diane), brother-in-law, Stanley Serreyn and many nieces and nephews. Veronica is preceded in death by her brothers, Andrew and John, sisters, Julia Ann Serreyn and Margaret Schwerr, brother-in-law Dean Schwerr and sister-in-law Jeanette Walters. Veronica grew up on the family farm in southwestern Minnesota. She graduated from Lynd High School in 1953. On a scholarship, she enrolled in nursing school and graduated from the University of MN in 1955, with an LPN degree. She started her nursing career at Methodist Hospital. She married Doyle on September 22, 1956, in Marshall, MN. They began their married life at University Village in St Paul, then to Hopkins, and to St. Louis Park. The family moved to Eldorado, Arkansas in 1971. In 1973, the family moved back to Minnesota and purchased their home in Columbia Heights. While raising a growing family she worked at Crestview Nursing Home. After Veronica and Doyle became empty nesters, she went back to work refinishing furniture. Veronica was famous for her overnight rolls, chocolate chip cookies, potato salad, fried bread dough, Crisco pancakes and the longest good-bye, where Doyle waited impatiently for his bride to leave any family gathering. Veronica's happiness and great joys were her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Veronica enjoyed researching genealogy for the Walters and Larkin families. She had a talent for making Christmas trees out of jewelry. Often Veronica put caring for family and friends before her own needs. Veronica had the luck of the Irish. Could this be why she was struck by lightning on two separate occasions? She frequently won at the casino and pull-tabs and generously shared her winnings. Her sharp wit and salty attitude will be greatly missed by family and friends. Her family would like to express sincere gratitude to the compassionate staff at Personal Care Senior Living in Columbia Heights for the great care provided to Veronica. She enjoyed her time there. Thank you to Hospice of the Midwest for the guidance and honoring her wishes. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 8, at 11:00 at Washburn-McReavy Columbia Heights Chapel. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4-7 pm and one hour prior to the service. Following the service, entombment at Gethsemane Cemetery. Memorials preferred to St Jude Children's Hospital.
