Darrell Ray Richardson, a man whose dedication, wit, and love for mechanics enriched the lives of those around him, passed away on September 16, 2025 at National Healthcare in Joplin. Born on April 18, 1943, in Neosho, Darrell's industrious spirit was evident from a young age. His long-standing career of over twenty years at Schreiber's in Carthage was a testament to his hard work and commitment. He had his own garage for a time, and was a mechanic at various places over the course of his career.

He met his wife Virginia "Ginger" Richardson through school in Carthage, his true soul mate, and they were married on March 9, 1963. Over the course of their 61 year marriage, they experienced life through many highs and lows. Together, they moved cities, raised their children, and finally experienced the joys of their grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ginger passed away on December 3, 2024.

Darrell was a man of many passions. He found joy in the intricacies of mechanics - from vehicles to planes, and was an avid gun enthusiast. His love for NASCAR races was only surpassed by his love for making people laugh whenever he had the opportunity. His wit and charm brought a unique spark to every conversation and left a lasting impression.

Darrell's life journey took him to several places including Northern California, Independence, KS, and Noel, before eventually settling in the Joplin-Carl Junction area. He lived a fulfilling life, always ensuring his days were filled with laughter, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his loved ones and his work.

He was a man of strong faith, and was a faithful member of Forest Park Church in Joplin with his wife Ginger for over twenty years. He served in various ministries at the church, including his Sunday School class and the AWANA program.

Darrell is survived by his children Stephanie (Perry) Workman and Amy (Lee Chastain) Blackford, and Douglas (Barbara) Richardson, who will remember him fondly as a loving father and a man of great character; grandchildren Jacob Workman, Garrett Richardson, Jessica Frix, Eric Workman, Vance Richardson, Noah Blackford, Raegyn Blackford and Levi Chastain; three great grandchildren Barrett, Zoey and Avianna Workman; and a brother Carroll (Sharon) Richardson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Richardson, and his parents, Loren and Maxine (Francisco) Richardson.

His life will be celebrated with a graveside service on Monday, September 22, 2025, at 10:00am at the Jessee Osborne Memorial Cemetery in Joplin with Pastor John Swadley officiating.

Services are under the personal care and direction of Simpson Funeral Home. We invite you to share your memories and photos of Darrell. His life was a testament to the power of laughter, dedication, and a love for mechanics.
