Darrell Serrett Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Charlet Funeral Home, Inc., Zachary, LA on Dec. 29, 2025.
Darrell W. Serrett Sr., a resident of Zachary, LA, passed away Christmas morning on Thursday, December 25, 2025 at the age of 82 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 15, 1943, in Baton Rouge, LA, where he began his journey in life as part of a young military family. This offered him the opportunity to travel widely, allowing Darrell to visit and live in many new places around the world. These experiences shaped his character and broadened his perspective from a young age. Darrell is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra Strickland Serrett; four daughters, Melissa Doucet of Zachary; Francelle (Chip) Guillet of Baton Rouge; Brittney (Sal) Peraino of Versailles, KY; Ashley (Blaine) Courville of Draper, UT; three sons: Darrell W. (Cheryl "Tootie") Serrett Jr. of Zachary; Michael Serrett of Plaquemine; and Jeffrey (Roberta) Serrett of Zachary; two sisters: Karen Serrett of Calgary, Canada; Laurie Serrett (Blaine Falcon) of Port Allen; one brother, Michael Serrett of Monroe, GA; four nephews and nieces: Nik Serrett; Brynt (Kayla) Rushing; Erin Duncan; and Emily Serrett; seventeen grandchildren: Trey, Justin, Kyle, Rebekah, Jake, Alec, Ava, Amber, Kacie, Logan, Reese, Cohen, Lawson, Brooks, Giorgio, Margo and Mila; and three great-grandchildren: Raylan, Oliver and Caleigh with 3 more expected in 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Stonewell and Gladys Serrett, and his son-in-law, Kenneth Doucet. Serving as pallbearers will be Chip Guillet, Blaine Courville, Sal Peraino, Trey Dispensire, Justin Serrett, Kyle Serrett, Jake Serrett, Alec Serrett and Logan Guillet. Darrell worked at Exxon Plastics for 35 years both in the US and overseas and upon retirement, began volunteering at Plains Presbyterian Church as a Deacon and later Chairman of the Cemetery Committee. With more free time on his hands, he continued his love of travel with Sandy and friends no matter the destination. He also enjoyed cheering on his grandchildren at their sports and various activities. Darrell never missed watching the LSU tigers nor a high school class reunion to catch up with his friends. He was a proud member of the self-proclaimed ROMEO Men's Club (Retired Old Men Eating Out) with his lifelong friends from Exxon who met weekly for lunch. Darrell also cherished every fishing trip and golf outing with his three beloved sons. He was always up for dinner and road trip adventures with close friends especially his Community Fellowship Group from church as well as his annual men's trip to the horse races in Hot Springs, AR. Darrell may have been a man of few words, but he loved big and was fondly referred to as "one of the good guys" from those who knew him best. He leaves behind an unwavering legacy of hard work, steadfast character, strong moral compass, a grounded sense of responsibility, and above all, faith in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for visitation at Plains Presbyterian Church located at 22929 Old Scenic Hwy, Zachary, LA on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. until the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. officiated by Rev. Campbell Silman. Immediately following, he will be laid to rest at Plains Presbyterian Memorial Gardens in Zachary, LA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the Plains Presbyterian Memorial Gardens. Please reach out to Plains Presbyterian Church for any memorial donations.

Mrs. Sandy and family, we will always remember Mr. Darrell for his wonderful smile. He was my first and best Supervisor! Always kind and helpful and patience with an inexperienced operator!! We will always cherish the time our families shared at BRPP and the dinners shared with the ROMEO club families! Prayers for strength and peace though this difficult time.

Grand Poppi ( as he was referred to by the grandchildren ) always had a smile when hugging Jeff. I really liked this photo as it shows his love for him. (Heart)

Brittney and Family,
I am so truly sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. I didn't know him, but he had to be a wonderful man since he gave Brittney to the world.
