Darrell Dean Simpson, 91 of Moore, Oklahoma, was called Home to the Lord on August 23, 2024. Darrell was the son of Charles Franklin Simpson and Lillian Jewel (Arbuckle) Baylor. He was born in Esbon, Kansas, on January 29, 1933. Both parents have preceded him in death, along with two sisters, Twyla Wacklea, and Winsom Hayes. He is also preceded in death by his first wife, Augusta Lavern Howard, and his second wife Jeanne Simpson.
He leaves three daughters to cherish his memory – Cindy Krosp, Amy Lynn Simpson-Krosp and husband David, and Laura Balfour-Grice and husband Ben; stepdaughters Cecelia Campbell and husband Gary, and Debra Betterton. Darrell is also survived by his grandchildren: Jeffrey Simpson, Chase Krosp and wife Charity Nichols, Matthew Krosp, Courtney Brown and husband Matt, Sarah Jo Simpson and husband Jake Rose, Madalyn Williams and wife Azure, Haylee Dishman, Greg Whitaker, Jennifer Vanduker, Jared Edgin, Sam Whitaker, Gabby Whitaker, and Pari Whitson; great-grandchildren Amora Simpson, Lilly Krosp, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Lawson, Harper Lawson, Blane Brown, Ethan Brown, Caleb Holtzberg, Max Brown, Braxton Rambo, Mason Rose, Abigail Rose, Abigail Whitson, Jody Whitson, and Conan Novotny; his sisters, Charlene Goeman, Charlotte Melton, Connie Claussen, and Mary Chambliss.
Darrell, affectionately called "the original MacGyver" by those closest to him, took tinkering to an entirely new level. He could truly convert any kind of junk into something useful, always astounding and inspiring the awe of his family and friends. A hard worker his entire life, Darrell spent most of his career as a Civil Engineer. When he did take time off to relax, you could usually find him fishing or hunting, working in his garden, watching his favorite movies or Nebraska Cornhuskers football, or at the store buying a new set of lottery scratchers. He also liked to stay active politically and watched FOX News regularly to stay informed about current affairs.
There were so many things in life that made Darrell happy, but it was ultimately time spent with the people he loved that brought him the most joy. He had only recently dedicated his life to our Lord Jesus Christ, and even though he did find his faith late in life, Darrell felt fully at peace when he was called to Heaven. If he were here right now, he would most certainly tell you that it is never too late to accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.
As we say our goodbyes to Darrell Dean Simpson, let us honor his memory by carrying on his legacy of strength and love. He will be dearly missed.
