Darrell Lynn Sumlin, born in Moultrie, Georgia, on February 9, 1962, was called home by the
Heavenly Father on May 31, 2024, at Riverside Hospital, at the age of 62. Darrell was the
beloved son of Gertherine and the late Johnny “Ralph” McKinney, and was deeply influenced by
his beloved grandmother, Juanita Reeves, who preceded him in death. He leaves behind a
legacy of love, strength, and unforgettable moments.
Darrell graduated from West High School, where he played sports and made lasting friendships.
His passion for sports continued throughout his life, reflecting his dedication and team spirit.
Darrell started his career working at Nationwide. His talent for computers led him to land jobs in
Information Technology with Alliance Insurance, BMI, and Honda.
Darrell loved fishing, playing cards, and creating treasured memories with his family.
As a child, Darrell attended Emmanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church Apostolic Faith located at
331 N. Garfield Ave, Columbus OH 43203. As an adult, he attended Beth Messiah
Congregation, located at 4950 Morse Rd, Gahanna, OH 43230.
Darrell lived a life full of compassion, loyalty, and family. He’ll be missed by everyone who had
the pleasure of knowing him, and his spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
He is survived by his mother, Gertherine; his daughters; Valissa, Chanel, and Carletta; his son;
Darrell, Dondre, and Johnny; his brothers, Ralph and Jonathan; and 12 grandkids, especially his
special grandchild Janiyah, He also leaves behind his fiance Jackie, as well as his aunts,
cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
