Darrel Wood Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by DeArman Pickard Funeral Home - Stratford on Dec. 10, 2025.
Darrel Wayne Wood was born on May 15, 1951, in Ada, Oklahoma, to Lorene Ruth (Jones) Wood and J.B. Wood. He passed away peacefully on December 8, 2025, at the age of 74.

Darrel was a devoted brother and family man. He is survived by his three brothers: Elden Roy Wood and his wife, Bertie Marie Wood, of Goldsby, Oklahoma; Galen Lee Wood of Stratford, Oklahoma; and Brian Keith Wood of Maysville, Oklahoma. He also leaves behind many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will cherish his memory. He was preceded in death by his parents and his baby sister.

Raised on a farm in Stratford, Oklahoma, Darrel learned the values of hard work and perseverance early in life. He attended school in Stratford, where he graduated and formed friendships that lasted a lifetime. After high school, he attended East Central University while searching for his true calling. Along the way, Darrel explored several paths, including construction and working on a horse ranch, before finding his career in corrections.

Darrel began his long and dedicated career at the prison in Lexington, Oklahoma. Through years of commitment and integrity, he rose to the rank of captain during a time of major transition. He later transferred to Pardon and Parole, where he worked out of Ada for several years. Darrel returned to college in his spare time and earned his bachelor's degree. After 33 years of service with the Department of Corrections and Pardon and Parole, he retired, having left a legacy of dedication and respect.

In retirement, Darrel found joy in life's simpler pleasures. He loved fishing, cheering on his nieces and nephews at their ballgames, and finally fulfilled a lifelong dream by buying a horse of his own. That dream brought him great pride, including winning several prizes, and even a saddle.

Darrel will be remembered for his quiet strength, steady work ethic, and deep love for his family. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Pallbearers will be Adam Wood, Joshua Wood, Michael Don Wood, Justin Wood, Devan Wood, and Brock Brittain.
