Jack A. Summers, 90, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 2:12 pm, Monday, May 6, 2024, at his home. He was born on October 6, 1933, in Grant County, Indiana, to Carl and Marie (Crumrine) Summers.
Jack was a 1953 graduate of Noble Township High School, and was a US Army veteran. He married Carolyn S. Atkinson in Wabash on August 10, 1958. He worked for Dana Corporation, retiring after 30 years. Jack attended Grace Community Church in Marion, Indiana. He enjoyed woodworking and fishing. He also enjoyed traveling and has visited 48 states.
He is survived by his wife, Carolyn S. Summers of Wabash; four children, Rick (Carol) Summers and Teresa (Randy) Airgood, both of Wabash, Beverly (Craig Blocher) Sneed of LaFontaine, Indiana, and Sheryl (Sam) Strange of Lagro, Indiana; five grandchildren, Ashley (Judd) Havens, Courtney (Ben) Backer, Erin (Chris) Rickner, Megan (Shawn Gatchel) Airgood, and Emily (Josh) Butcher; 12 great-grandchildren, Noah, Quinn, Elliott, and Riley Backer, Ben and Nicole Havens, Micah, Hadley, and Owen Rickner, Grayson Butcher, Brantley and Cadence Gatchel; and two brothers, Bernard Summers of Texas, and Bob (Joyce) Summers of Wabash. He was preceded in death by his parents, son-in-law, Ed Sneed, daughter-in-law, Linda Summers, six brothers, Morris, Ralph, Rex, Richard, Glen, and Jim Summers, and three sisters, Helen Roush, Phyllis Steele, and Judy Murphy.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, May 10, 2024, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash with Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Lawns Cemetery, Wabash. Friends may call 4-7 pm Thursday, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorials are Riley Hospital for Children or Grant County Cancer Society.
