Darren Lee Wharton, 47, of Ocean Springs, MS passed away on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at UMMC in Jackson, MS.
Darren was born in Ocean Springs, MS. He received his GED, Business Degree, and many other awards and accomplishments. Darren worked for MAGCOR at MDOC as a printshop associate. He was a philosopher, mentor and man of God.
He was predeceased by his biological father, Darren Lee Sullivan; his paternal grandmother, Nanci Sullivan; and his maternal grandparents, George and Mary Emile.
Darren’s survivors include his mother and step dad, Connie and Pat Firmin; his adoptive dad, Richard Wharton; brother, Marcus (Ashley) Wharton; three nieces, Riley, McKenzie, and Kennedy; and a host of uncles, aunts, and cousins.
In memory of Darren, we would like any donations to be given to curemississippi c/o Sondra Humphrey. This is an organization that advocates for prison inmates.
Darren is a person that you could never forget if you were allowed to get to know him. His life spoke volumes from a young age. Life was not fair to him and his family in so many ways, yet their faith never wavered. Darren loved the Lord with his whole being. He mentored, ministered to those in need and gave his all to everyone that knew and loved him.
The pain that his family feels is indescribable. We have to come to terms with why God didn't allow Darren to have time with his family before he passed. He was a warrior for his mother, brother, and his brother's wife and his nieces. We are not sure how to move forward but we know Darren will help us find our way. Looking forward to seeing him in our dreams.
A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, November 16, 2024 at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Home, Ocean Springs, MS. Friends may visit two hours prior.
