Darren A. Young, 64 years old of Summit NJ, passed away unexpectedly on March 13, 2025 in
Bristol, RI. Darren was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Mountainside, NJ. He was the loving husband of Jane Pickering for 28 years before his passing.
He attended Jonathan Dayton High School and graduated from Rutgers University. In 1995, he met his wife Jane Pickering and they married in 1997. They had Madison Young in 1999 and Adam Young in 2001, and he and his family resided in Summit, NJ for 28 years.
After attending college, Darren had a career as a software developer and held multiple positions in the field, his most recent as Principal Solutions Architect at Yusen (fka Taylored and Toll) in Edison, NJ. He was a dedicated employee and loved writing software. He was well known for his extreme proficiency in the FoxPro computer language, presenting at multiple conferences dedicated to the language. His greatest project was an extensive logistics system for his company, which is still used today.
In his free time, Darren was an avid golfer and a longtime member of Ash Brook Golf Club Men's Association in Scotch Plains, NJ. He played every weekend - weather permitting. He lived an active lifestyle, also enjoying softball, volleyball, and pool. His love for competition extended to coaching as well, as he volunteered his time as a coach for Summit Softball for several years. Darren was also active in politics, running for congress as a Libertarian four separate times between the years 2000 and 2008.
He is survived by his wife: Jane Pickering; his children: Madison and Adam Young; his sister: Debbie Young Stowers; his niece: Vanessa Young; members of Jane's family; his sister-in-law: Elisa Young; and many associates.
Darren is predeceased by his parents: Fred and Ruth Young; his brother: Dr. Douglas Young; and his sister: Dolores Young Makrogiannis.
He was a loving husband, father, and brother. He was looking forward to the next chapter of his life with Jane in their new home in
Bristol, RI. He will be dearly missed.
His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 7:00 PM on the first tee of Ashbrook Golf Course, 1210 Raritan Road, Scotch Plains, NJ 07076. All are welcome. This will not be a formalized event so please make sure to wear your casual golf attire. There will be a eulogy and an honorary tee shot for Darren. No food will be provided, but feel free to bring drinks as we reminisce about Darren.
