McCullough Funeral HomeIt is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Darrin Wayne Root, Jr., affectionately known as D.J., who gained his angel wings on July 9, 2025, in Holly Hill, Florida, at the age of 40. D. J. was born on March 23, 1985, in Wichita Falls, Texas, to Tammy Lackey and Darrin Root.
D.J. was a beloved son, nephew, and uncle, whose heart knew no bounds. He was known for his sweet and kind nature, extending warmth and acceptance to everyone he met, treating them like family. His devotion to his loved ones was unwavering; he cherished every moment spent with them.
D.J. leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts: his parents, Tammy and stepfather, Steven Schwarz of Warner Robins, Georgia, and Darrin and stepmother, Kayo Root of San Antonio, Texas; his siblings, Jesse Root (Jamie) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Jeremy Root of San Antonio, Texas, Angela Schwarz of Florida and Heidi Root Menadue of San Antonio, Texas; and his grandmother, Doris Lackey of Wichita Falls, Texas. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Ronald Mauden. D.J. will be deeply missed by his many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins, and nieces, MacKenzie Root and MacKaleigh Root.
A memorial service for family and close friends will be held on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at McCullough Funeral Home, to celebrate D.J.'s life and honor the beautiful legacy he leaves behind. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel.
