It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Darryl Wayne Brevard on July 24, 2024, at the age of 58. Darryl was born on September 6, 1965 in Union, SC to Dr. Henry W. Brevard and the late Mildred Gilmore Brevard.
Darryl, "The Philosopher", was educated in the Berkeley County School District, where he was a Berkeley High School Class of 1983 graduate. He continued his education at his beloved HBCU, South Carolina State University, receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree in Marketing in 1987. After working for the Berkeley County School District, he began a career as an insurance agent with Aaron Brown Insurance Agency before becoming an independent agent.
It was on the campus of South Carolina State University where Darryl met the love of his life Veronica Richmond Brevard at a campus cafeteria. On June 5, 1993, Darryl married Veronica, a union of 31 years. After getting married, they moved to his childhood home in Moncks Corner, SC. In 1997, they became the proud parents of VaShannon Brevard.
A lifelong fan and sports enthusiast, Darryl had an unconditional love for the Berkeley Stags, the Dallas Cowboys, the Atlanta Braves and South Carolina State University's Bulldog Nation. He had a fascination for the mountains and loved the snow, wishing each winter for Carolina Snow. Darryl also had eclectic taste in music; some of his favorite artists included Marvin Gaye, Lou Rawls, Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, and Hall and Oates.
Darryl committed his life to the Lord at twelve years old when he was confirmed at The Church of the Redeemer Episcopal, Pineville, SC. He also loved his community and served it well through his affiliations with the NAACP and The S.T.A.T.E. Club. Darryl was initiated in the Moncks Corner Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated in Fall 1987. As a member of his beloved fraternity, he served as Polemarch and Dean of Pledges of the Moncks Corner Alumni Chapter.
Family and friends meant the world to Darryl; he never went anywhere without making a new friend. Darryl always tried his best to stay connected with his loved ones. If not visiting in person, he always remained only a phone call away. To share in his legacy of love, he leaves behind his devoted wife Veronica Richmond Brevard; his cherished daughter VaShannon Brevard; his devout father Henry W. Brevard, II; his unwavering sister and brother-in-law Nicole Brevard-Hines (Edison); his adored nieces Shequila Davis, Hadyn Hines and Arielle Cain; his aunts Shirley Gilmore Tate, Henrietta B. Mitchell, Martha Gilmore, and Tina Gilmore; his uncle Singleton Gilmore; his father-in-law Clifton Richmond, Sr.; mother-in-law Plumie Shannon Richmond; brother-in-law Clifton Richmond, Jr.; his sister-in-law VaShondra Wright (Terrence); a special group of childhood friends "The Sugarhill Gang"; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
The Church of the Redeemer kindly requests no flowers for the service. Instead, please consider making a donation to the Berkeley County Alumni Chapter of SCSUNAA Scholarship Fund in memory of Darryl Wayne Brevard.
