Darryl Fairmon Gray life’s purpose was fulfilled, and his journey was completed at Ochsner Medical Center Main Campus on Monday, January 20, 2025, at the age 57. He was a native of New Orleans, LA and a resident of Marrero, LA. Darryl was a graduate of John Ehret High School and continued his studies at Diesel Driving Academy in Baton Rouge, LA, where he earned his CDL license. Darryl retired after 20 plus years as a Delivery Driver, for Kirshman’s, Universal and Doerr Furniture Stores. He was also employed as a Professional Dry Cleaner with the Hyatt Regency. He enjoyed dancing with his wife, cooking and barbequing for his family, and cheering for his favorite football team the New Orleans Saints. Darryl had a gift for leaving a lasting impact on all who crossed his path. Beloved husband of 30 years to the love of his life Yelitza Eugene Gray. Devoted father of Danyell Gilmore, Chyawanda (Clifford) Pierre, Darrielle Gray, Darryl (Taylor) Carter, Sr., Darryl Gray, Jr., Darrinisha (Je) Gales, Darren Gray, and the late Tanika Murdock. Cherished grandfather of Da’John, Davon, Daveon, Dasha, Da’Laya, D’Asia, Chyaionna and Carlai Gilmore, Khalia Hanifa, Dakota, Darryl III, and Tristan Carter, Tah’Lia, Sanai, Sa’Mirr, and Siah Gray, Jeson and Blythe Gales, and the late Darryl Carter, Jr. Great grandfather of De’Arri Gilmore. Loving son of Lillian White Gray and the late Willie Fairman, Sr. Grandson of the late Andrew and Lillian White, Audrey Lee Dixon, Roy, Sr. and Alice Walker. Brother of Easton (Joy) Gray, Jr., Andrew (Patrisha) Gray, Sr., Marvin (Elaine) Gray, Sr., Dana (Chistopher) Samuels, and the late Margaret White. Son-in-law of Rev. Albert Sr. and Shelia Ketchens, Roy (Carlita) Walker. Godfather of Morgan White, A’Briyelle Benjamin, and Shyrus Collins. Darryl is also survived by his close friends Enrique Johnson, James Lynch, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of New Home Ministries, Little Zion Baptist Church #3, Ephesus Missionary Baptist Church, and all neighboring churches; employees of Doerr Furniture, Louisiana Virtual Charter School (LAVCA), St. Charles and Jefferson Parish Public Schools, Loop Linen, and Dollar Tree are invited to attend the Celebration of Life at Rock of Ages Baptist Church, 6533 Acre Road, Marrero, LA on Friday, January 31, 2025 at 10:00a.m. Visitation will begin at 8:30a.m. until service time at the church.
