Darryl John Schmitt

Age 63 of Rosemount, MN. Passed away at his home surrounded by his family on July 9, 2025.

He was preceded in death by parents, Martin and Norma Schmitt; grandparents, Arthur and Winnifred Farley; and brother-in-law, Michael Growette.

Survived by loving wife of 37 years, Brenda; children, Corey John Schmitt, Anthony Jared Schmitt and Megan Marie Schmitt; sister, Diana (Dan) Richardson; brother, Ron (Mignonne) Schmitt; parents-in-law, Michael and Geraldine Growette; sister-in-law, Jessica Growette; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.

Darryl was born on October 8, 1961 in Oelwein, Iowa to Martin and Norma Schmitt. On July 9, 1988 he married the love of his life Brenda Growette in Cannon Falls, MN. They would have celebrated their 37th wedding anniversary on the day of his passing. He attended Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids from 1981-1983 where he earned his Associates Degree. He graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business from Winona State University in 1987. He worked for Signode Industrial Group for 34 years.

Growing up in Oelwein, IA Darryl enjoyed participating in football, baseball and wrestling. After college Darryl and his wife Brenda settled in Rosemount, MN where they raised their three children. The most important thing in the world to Darryl was his family. He loved supporting his children and attending their many activities. In addition to supporting his family he cherished his time with his neighbors, especially Luke Heimer and Dick Hauser. Whether they were catching a sports game in the garage or out braving the Minnesota winter ice fishing, anytime they were together was a good time. He was a lifetime avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Darryl loved being outside hunting, fishing, going to the cabin in northern Minnesota, traveling with the family and being at his brother Ron's farm in Iowa.

He was a peaceful, selfless, fun loving, and caring soul to all who knew him. His warm heart, silent strength and calming presence will be missed by all who were touched by him.

Special thanks to Father Tim Wozniak, Dr. Sandeep Jain and MN Hospice.
