On the evening of Thursday, September 4, 2025, Darwin J. "Dobby" Dobson, of Yardley, passed away peacefully with his wife of 45 years, Mary-Ellen, by his side. He was 69 years of age.
Dobby was born in Southampton on April 21, 1956, a son of the late Joan (née Gibbons) and Darwin M. "Dobbie" Dobson. He attended William Tennett High School and was a proud graduate of Penn State, where he became a lifelong fan of the Nittany Lions. With his wife by his side, Dobby built a career in the moving industry that spanned 50 years. Highlights included his 35 years with Graebel Vanlines, where many colleagues became dear friends, and his more recent time at New World Vanlines, where he worked as a Regional Vice President.
Even as Dobby's career took him and Mary-Ellen to many different cities across the country, he remained a devoted Philadelphia sports fan, ardently following the Eagles, Phillies, and Flyers. Dobby was also absolutely passionate about golf. He looked forward to his weekend mornings spent with his golf buddies at Makefield Highlands, and he had many good memories of the courses he played and the great friends he played with throughout the years. Having inherited his father's commitment to service and his mother's love of politics, Dobby spent many years active in local politics in Lower Makefield Township, where he served as a Township Supervisor from 2012 to 2015.
Dobby was a true family man who always put the needs of his family first. In recent years, he enjoyed traveling with Mary-Ellen, exploring new places and cultures. His daughter, Deryn, was the apple of his eye. He was at his happiest when with his two grandsons, who brought him more joy than words can express. Dobby is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Mary-Ellen; daughter, Deryn Darcy (Kieran); grandchildren, Aidan and Declan Darcy; siblings Larry Dobson (Diane), Barbara Krantz (Bob), Betty Osbourne, Danny Dobson, and Evy Brennan (Richie); as well as his many nieces, nephews, and family-in-law. He will also be deeply missed by many friends.
Dobby's family will receive relatives and friends on Friday, September 12, 2025, from 10 to 11:30AM, at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave., Southampton, PA 18966. A Mass of Christian Remembrance will begin at 11:30AM. Interment is to be held privately at the request of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Darwin "Dobby" Dobson may be sent to the Tara Miller Melanoma Center at the University of Pennsylvania's Perelman School of Medicine.
