Dave Meiners, age 71, of Marion, IL, passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at 8:30 a.m. at his home with his wife and dob, Gabbi, by his side.

He was born on October 4, 1953 in Springfield, IL, and adopted by Henry and Eloise (Kliesner) Meiners.

Dave devoted his life to caring for others by working as a medic – a career he loved beyond words. He started working in EMS at the age of 13 for Superior Ambulance Service in Springfield, IL. He eventually moved to Southern Illinois to attend SIU-Carbondale where he started working for Jackson County Ambulance Service. He never graduated from SIU, but, he was a graduate of the first paramedic class at John A. Logan College in 1983.

His dream had always been to fly. He did earn his fixed wing pilot license from SIU. He continued with that dream in the medical field as a paramedic. First with Southeast Missouri Hospital helicopter then with Arch AirMedical. He retired from Arch after twenty-nine years with them.

Dave was active in the EMS community. He was affiliate faculty for ITLS, taught ITLS and ACLS throughout the state. He was also recognized as medic of the year for ITLS in London, England.

Dave always said he never worked a day in his life because he did what he loved.

He passed from this life a friend of Bill W.

He is survived by his wife, Lee Anne Meiners; siblings, Diane (Mike) Townsley, and Doug (Judy) Peak; and countless friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
