David Alsup Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Light Memorial & Funeral Chapel - Monrovia on Feb. 3, 2025.
David Samuel Alsup, 85, of Camby, passed peacefully at 11:33 pm, on Friday, January 31, 2025, while surrounded by loved ones in the comfort of his own home. He was born on April 15, 1939, in St. Charles, Virginia, to the late Charles and Willa Mae (Marlow) Alsup.
Spending his childhood in the hollers of Pennington Gap, David was one of eleven siblings. He moved with his family to Indiana as a teenager, where he attended Mooresville High School, in the class of 1958. He proudly played football for the Pioneers. It was on the school bus that David's heart was captured by Carolyn Frances Stewart. Their youthful love blossomed, and at the tender age of 15, they began courting and eagerly joined hands in marriage on June 15, 1957. Their love story spanned an incredible seventy years, blessed with nine children born over a period of 28 years. David was the epitome of a family man.
A tireless laborer and diligent provider, his work ethic was unmatched, fueled by his deep faith in his Lord and Savior. He instilled these same values in his children, creating an "army of loved ones" who looked to him as their guiding light. With a deep appreciation for the natural world, when David wasn't working, he cherished moments spent with his family. Going on day trips, exploring the beauty of places like Brown County and McCormick's Creek. A gentle giant with a kind heart, his family was his greatest source of pride and joy. Reserved and honest, yet with a playful sense of humor, he was also gifted with a sharp mind for mathematics. He found joy in simple pleasures, from treating his family to Dairy Queen to sharing his knowledge of trees and birds with his children. He enjoyed the challenge of walnut picking, cheering on the Indianapolis Colts, and even at the age of seventy, could be found splitting wood with practiced ease, his ability to read the grain making each swing count.
David was an original member of the West Newton Worship and Youth Center in Camby and later attended the Way of the Cross Tabernacle in Martinsville. David's legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. He may be remembered from his previous employments at the Beverage Paper Mill, Borden's Dairy, and Maplehurst Farms. He will be deeply missed.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janet "Elizabeth" Alsup; siblings, Tom, Bill, Sue, Ralph, Carol, along with two infant sisters, Linda Joyce and Shirley Ann Alsup.
Survivors include his loving wife and confidant of 70 years, Carolyn Alsup of Camby; children, Lora Alsup Allen (John) of Clay City, Floyd Alsup of Las Vegas, Nevada, Tree (Daniel) of Tennessee, Jason Alsup I (Kim) of Camby, Joseph Alsup of Camby, Benjamin Alsup I (Tiffany) of Camby, Michael Alsup I (Jessica Weaver) of Camby, Aaron Alsup (Cruz Acosta) of Indianapolis, Carolyn Frances "Charity" Alsup Burgess (Micheal) of Camby; siblings, Danny Alsup of Greenwood, Jerry and James Alsup both of Indianapolis; 22 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren and two on the way.
