David was born on November 28, 1929, in Lead Hill, Arkansas, the son of Earl Newton and Ruth Isabella (Waltrip) and passed away on December 29, 2023 in Mt. Vernon, Missouri.
David served in the United States Army serving stateside as an MP during the Korean War. After the service, he settled in Springfield where he met his future wife, Bonabeth, at the dentist office where she worked. He worked at several jobs, but his favorites were his painting business and his position at Logan Rogersville Schools, where he was a beloved janitor/maintenance/bus driver. David loved to farm and raise Herefords and had a huge garden.
David and Bonabeth attended Elm Grove Methodist Church and were faithful followers of Jesus, and they both were from an early age.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ruth; his brother, Joe; and sister, Dixie.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Bonabeth, of the home, son Bart (Julie), granddaughter Vanessa Richardson (Mike), Alyssa Carroll and Kailey Waggoner, son Steve Wilson, grandson Walker (Alyssa), daughter Janet Beck (Ken).
Other survivors include brother Glen and sisters Evelyn Patterson, Lori Russian, Elizabeth Andrews and other relatives and friends.
He was dearly loved and will be truly missed.
The family would like to give special thanks in appreciation to the wonderful, caring staff that cared for David at the Mt. Vernon Veteran's Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mt. Vernon Veteran's Home or the Altzheimer's Association.
There will be a graveside service Friday January 5, at 1:00 at the Missouri Veterans Cemetery located at 5201 S Southwood RD. Springfield MO.
