Dave Appling, of East Grand Forks, MN, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 75 on Friday, June 20, 2025.
David Jerry Appling was born on May 11, 1950 to Jerry and Ruth (Spitzer) Appling in Lincoln, NE. Dave grew up in Grand Forks, ND. He graduated from Grand Forks Central High School in 1968, and then from NDSCS in 1970. On May 2, 1975 Dave married Linda McGuire, and recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on May 2, 2025. They raised 3 children: Dawn, John, and Mike. Dave worked as an auto body technician until 1984. He then started at the City of East Grand Forks where he worked until retirement in 2007. Once he retired from the city, he enjoyed his time working at Rydell's Toy Shop.
Dave was known for his love of cars and Pabst Blue Ribbon. He spent a lot of time in the garage with his friends and was a lifetime member of the Minnesota Street Rod Association. Dave also enjoyed watching and attending Twins games with his family. His favorite pastime was rocking his grandchildren and great-grandson, and he absolutely loved spending time with each of them as they have grown.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ruth and Gerald Appling; and sister, Evelyn Horton.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Appling; daughter, Dawn (Brian) Holmes; sons, John (Brittany) Appling, and Michael (Janna) Appling; grandchildren, Calista Appling, Mikayla Appling, Lennon Appling, and Aeris Appling; and great-grandson, Christopher Busche.
CELEBRATION OF LIFE is on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00pm, with a SHARING OF MEMORIES at 5:00pm, at Dahl Funeral Home, 2029 Central Ave. NW, East Grand Forks, MN.
