David B. Armstrong of Manahawkin passed away Tuesday, November 12, 2024 at his home. He was 76.
Born in Mount Holly to John and Gladys (Goley) Armstrong. Dave was a lifelong area resident.
He was a 1966 graduate of RVRHS in Mount Holly. After high school Dave pursued a career in the automotive repair industry as an auto body mechanic. After more than twenty years in that occupation he was employed as an automotive mechanic with the Lumberton Township Public Works Department, retiring with nearly thirty years of service.
As a young man, Dave was a volunteer firefighter, serving first in Mount Holly with the Good Intent Fire Co. and later with the Lumberton Fire Department. As a result of his service he earned his NJ State Exempt Fireman's certificate. Dave also was trained and certified as an emergency medical technician (EMT-A). After volunteering with Mount Holly's America Emergency Squad for a time in the mid seventies, he and four other volunteer EMT's formed the Lumberton Emergency Squad in late 1978. This organization continues to provide emergency services to Lumberton and surrounding communities. Dave was the Squad's first President, a position he held for 30+ years.
Retirement found Dave enjoying his home in the Beach Haven West area of Manahawkin. In warm weather he loved to take sunset cruises on his boat with family and friends. He was well known in his neighborhood for greeting everyone with a smile and wave on his daily walks.
David is survived by his "kids," Jennifer Barton and her husband Eugene Barton, Jr., of Elizabethtown, PA, and Nancy Sexton and her husband Troy of Lumberton, NJ; 4 grandchildren: Luke and Ella Barton, Leigha & Thomas Sexton. He is also survived by a brother John Armstrong and his wife Pat of Florida. He was the longtime companion of the late Debbie Poinsett.
It was Dave's wish to be cremated with no services. Contributions in his memory may be made to either the Manahawkin United Methodist Church or to the Rett Syndrome Research Trust at https://reverserett.org/donate/
