David Lee Askvig, 72, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away at his home in Ankeny on Wednesday, April 9, 2025. He was born on April 14, 1952, in Boone, Iowa, the son of Bert and Virginia (Bryson) Askvig.
David grew up in Boone, Iowa and graduated from Boone High School in 1970. He was united in marriage to Katheryn Klocksiem on April 29, 1972, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Ogden, Iowa. They were the proud parents of four children: Erin, Mark, Jeffrey, and Jason.
David was a prior member of the 1064th Transportation Company of the Iowa Army National Guard based out of Boone, Iowa. He was employed by Hy-Vee and Dahl's as a bakery manager. He was a business owner of Askvig's Bakery in Ames, Iowa. David later went to work at the Mail Distribution Center as a mail handler in Urbandale, Iowa, where he worked until he retired in January 2021.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and Virginia Askvig, and his brother, Dennis Askvig. He is survived by his wife, Katheryn Askvig of Ankeny, Iowa; his children: Erin (Andy) Hennigar of Ankeny, Iowa, Mark (Jamie) Askvig of Kalispell, Montana, Jeffrey (Sara) Askvig of Ankeny, Iowa, and Jason Askvig of Ankeny, Iowa; three grandchildren: Holden and Melina Askvig of Kalispell, Montana, and Landrey Askvig of Ankeny, Iowa; his beloved dog Beau; other relatives; and friends.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 14, 2025, at Schroeder-Stark-Welin Funeral Home in Boone. Interment will be at Paton Township Cemetery in Paton, Iowa, following the funeral service.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa.
