Maurice "Maury" Lowell Askvig
It is with deep sorrow and a steadfast faith in Christ that we announce the passing of Maurice Lowell Askvig, age 62. Maury was greeted by our Heavenly Father with open arms on March 8, 2025. He was born on December 10, 1962, to Lloyd and Ora (Anderson) Askvig in Minot, North Dakota.
Maury grew up surrounded by love and laughter with his siblings, with whom he shared a special bond. Family was the heart of his life, and he always carried the values of love, loyalty, and selflessness throughout his years.
After graduating from Minot High School in 1981, Maury followed his passion of being a cattleman buying the start of his herd. Maury's passion for ranching ran deep. From the crack of dawn until the day's end, he could always be found feeding or checking on the cattle, riding horseback through the pastures, fixing fence, or simply enjoying the quiet beauty of the ranch. It wasn't just work for Maury-it was a way of life, one that he cherished with every fiber of his being. His love for ranching was evident in the way he treated the animals with respect, care, and patience, always putting their well-being first. He became a first-generation farmer and rancher. He was deeply proud of his work and loved nothing more than being on the farm and tending to the land and animals. His love for the farm was only surpassed by his love for his family.
On August 20th, 2003, Maury married Chastity Zablotney, and together they had three beautiful children along with a stepson that he always considered his own. Maury's greatest joy was being a father, and he poured his heart into teaching his children the ways of the farm and the love of their Heavenly Father. His faith and family were always his top priorities, and he instilled these values in his children every day.
Maury was known for his infectious laugh, smile, and kindness. He had a way of making everyone around him feel special, always putting others before himself. Whether it was sharing a laugh, telling a story, or lending a hand, Maury made a lasting mark on everyone he met. In addition to farming, Maury was an avid hunter, and he loved spending time outdoors with his family, passing down his passion for hunting to his children.
Maury was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him, and his legacy of love, laughter, and faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
Maury is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Chastity; children, Tristan (Jewel) Thompson, Siri (Ty) Van Horn, Reidun and Cimarron Askvig; brother, Martin Askvig; grandchild, Wayne Van Horn; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of extended family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lloyd and Ora Askvig; brother, Michael; sisters, Cynthia and Cathy; niece, Michelle; and other family and friends.
Maury's family and friends will forever remember him for his genuine heart, unwavering faith, and the love he so freely gave. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
