David passed away peacefully on July 24, 2024, surrounded by family. He was born on February 12, 1954, in Paragould, Arkansas, the son of Ralph Jerry Bachus and Floy Binford Bachus, and brother to Robert Edward Bachus. He grew up in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and attended Middle Tennessee State University.
He moved to Gainesville, Florida, in 1980 to pursue a career with Metropolitan Insurance Company where he met his best friend, love of his life and future bride, Suzanne Akin Gibbs.
They married in 1984 and spent 40 amazing years by each other's side. Together they were blessed to raise two sons, Adam and Brittain, who both admired David as an incredible, loving father who taught them many life lessons. He loved spending time with his family, playing sports with his sons, working on cars and other projects. David would make people laugh and smile, had one-liners constantly, and talked to everyone.
During those years, David was a youth counselor at his church, Grace United Methodist, and was involved in the Boys Club of Alachua County and Buchholz High School football programs with his sons. He was kindhearted and understanding but firm and disciplined making for a great mentor to young men.
David's financial industry career expanded into advertising sales for the MEGAbook and The Sourcebook Yellow Pages and WCJB TV20. He returned to the insurance industry and ended his professional career at Bankers Life.
David retired in 2016 and enjoyed spending days on the golf course, at the lake and beach with his family, dinners with friends, traveling with his beloved wife and being an incredible 'Pop' to his four grandchildren. He had a passion for cars and loved meeting new people which came together perfectly to make for a fun retirement job as an Uber driver.
Those grateful in sharing in his life are his wife, Suzanne A Bachus; son William Adam Gibbs and daughter-in-law Kristen (Wilson) Gibbs, grandchildren Jackson Aden and Lena Addison Gibbs of Orlando, FL; son, Brittain David Bachus and daughter-in-law Samantha (Pitzenberger) Bachus,
grandchildren Richard Dean "Rickie" and Ronnie Alice Bachus of Ankeny, IA; his brother Robert Edward "Bob" Bachus and sister-in-law Cindy Bachus of Gainesville, FL; brother-in-law Van Akin and wife Fran Akin of Ocala, FL, sister-in-law Nita Akin Chester of Gainesville, FL; sister-in-law Marie Akin Stowell and husband James Stowell of Newnan, GA; and mother-in-law, Alice Akin Bush aka Granny Alice.
Join us in celebrating a life well lived on August 10, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Grace at Fort Clarke Church, 9325 West Newberry Rd, Gainesville, FL 32608. In lieu of flowers, donations to Grace at Fort Clarke Church Youth Group https://gracegnv.org/give/ will be appreciated.

When I moved to Gainesville 5 years ago Dave was the first neighbor and friend that I met. I would push my newborn grandson in a stroller and he would chat and talk about his lovely wife Suzanne. He watched Atlas grow and I became friends with Suzanne. I will miss his smile and kindness.
