David J. Balzer, 89, of Checotah, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday, June 26, 2025, at his home. Born on May 4, 1936 in Peoria, Illinois, David was the cherished son of John B. and Mary Elaine (Zuercher) Balzer. He graduated from Peoria High School and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri, followed by a master’s degree from Bradley University in Peoria, IL.
On January 14, 1961, in Denver, Colorado, David married the love of his life, Janet Odell Hoel, and together they shared a beautiful union that lasted fifty-three years. Throughout his career, David made significant contributions as a design engineer, working at General Dynamics for five years before dedicating twenty-six years to Caterpillar Tractor Company.
An avid runner, David was a past president of the Pike Peak Road Runner Club and enjoyed participating in half marathons across the United States. His passions also included motorcycling and golfing, activities that brought him great joy.
David is survived by his beloved son, Mike Balzer; daughter, Teresa Lynn Diamond and her husband Michael; along with grandchildren Michaela Normile and her husband Patrick, Bethany Pledger and her husband Scott, and Colin Diamond. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, William.
David J. Balzer will be remembered for his kindness, spirit, and the love he shared with his family and friends.
