David Allen Bechard, affectionately, departed from this life on the 18th of December, 2025, in the peaceful town of Philip, South Dakota. Born on March 27, 1947, in
Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to the late Paul and Violet (Lundahl) Bechard, David's early years were spent in
Draper, SD, before his family moved to Pierre, where he completed his high school education in 1966.
Following graduation, David exhibited a strong sense of duty and patriotism by enlisting in the United States Navy. His four-year tenure in service to his country was a testament to his dedication and resilience. Upon his return to Pierre, David embarked on a career with Western States Wholesale as a truck driver, demonstrating his strong work ethic and dependability. It wasn't long before he found his calling with the UPS in Pierre, where he remained a steadfast employee for 37 years. David's commitment to safety and excellence was recognized by his induction into the UPS Hall of Fame for Safe Driving, a reflection of the many accolades he received over the years.
David's diligence and responsibility were evident even from his youth, as he was once named Paper Carrier of the Year for the Capitol Journal. His varied work experience also included positions at the State Theater and Newberry's Department Store. Beyond his professional pursuits, David was an avid outdoorsman, relishing in the joys of hunting, fishing, and meticulously tending to his garden and lawn, which were the envy of his neighbors.
Faith played a significant role in David's life; he was a devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church and the American Legion. His ability to repair almost anything was a skill he proudly learned from his father and one he utilized throughout his life.
David was a beacon of love and stability in his family. He was a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who cherished every moment with his loved ones. David is survived by his beloved wife, Judith, his devoted children, Carrie (Kyle) Currier, Allen (Kristi) Bechard, and John (Jodi) Bechard. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Colton, Connor, Kaylee, and Brecken, and his great-grandchildren, Leena and Vay. His brother Roy, along with many nieces and nephews, also survive him. David was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Lavonne, his brothers Merle and Loran, and his best friend Jack Martell
